On October 24, 2024, over 100 volunteers painted 4 street murals along the Ferdinand Avenue corridor in Roanoke City as part of a traffic calming project spearheaded by local residents and organizations. The project received an AARP Community Challenge Grant, which is part of the nationwide AARP Livable Communities initiative that helps communities become great places to live for residents of all ages.
